YARAT Contemporary Art Space proudly presents the work of another participant of Participate! Public Art Festival 2013. By means of a red carpet and some other decorative elements, the artist and designer Orkhan Mammad will transform a most ordinary pedestrian subway in the city centre to a so-called ‘VIP pedestrian subway’.
The artist aims to draw the attention of the residents of Baku to an everyday situation. City dwellers ignore pedestrian subways, cross the street in the wrong place, and on a daily basis put themselves and drivers at needless risk. Transforming pedestrian subways, Orkhan Mammad will add to their visual appeal and prestige in the eyes of pedestrians. To each pedestrian who will use it, there will be an opportunity to become a VIP and feel their own importance in the life of a megapolis.
VIP Pedestrian Subway is the fourth project which will be presented by Participate! Public Art Festival this year. Ten artists’ projects have been specifically created for the festival by artists from Azerbaijan, Russia, Georgia, the UK, Portugal and the Netherlands, with the principle of interaction uniting them all. The festival is sponsored by Bank Respublika.
